[f-AA] Auto-gas STC

Many states including mine have gone to ethanol in all gas so that ends the "auto gas" flying. Before that I have done many years with no problems. Interestingly enough the EAA has managed to have Wisconsin 80 octane expemted from ethanol. Too bad they could not do this for the Non Wisconsin members.

Fly frequently, many times, often, over and over again, and LOOK around,

Regards,

Yes, the STC requires the fuel to be free of alcohol. You can get all
the tech data on the STC and how to test for alcohol from the EAA
website. I also recommend ordering a vapor-pressure guage from
Petersen. If you check for alcohol and check the vapor pressure before
you fly, autogas works well. I don't recommend it if your airplane sits
for long periods of time between flights. I don't like to keep autogas
longer than 3 months but that is a personal preference. We used it
successfully in our 172. However, it has become too much trouble to
test gas from 5 different stations to find one without alcohol. I've
gone back to 100LL due to this problem. We asked each station if they
had alcohol. All said NO. 4 out of 5 samples showed alcohol when we
tested. I don't guess we should expect the person at the register to
know much about fuel composition anyway. Ron
