I figure that he is too busy patrolling the snow packed streets of Kewanee to throw that stone tonight and by tomorrow it is all old news. I was in Rockford this morning and they cancelled school because of the snow - the instructors could not get in so I drove home - a lot further than they had to come. I understand that Rockford declared a state of emergency this mornig and started ticketing those who chose to drive in town as they wanted everyone off the streets - too many accidents and the traffic was making it impossible to clear the roads. Went to Walmart in Geneseo this evening and the lot was full of semis as well as the truck stop across the road at the "Deck" was told that the I-80 was closed just east of here due to the snow and several accidents. The poor truckers had no where else to go - sure glad that I am not driving truck anymore.

That is what the MMO is used for. Don't need the MMO for the autogas but it sure helped me on the 100LL. That is how I read Lasher's book. Okay guys I figure that you are all snowed in so I'm safely out of range and don't need to duck and cover.

Anyone routinely using a lead scavenger with the 100LL for the Continental A-65 family?

I have been involved in the petroleum business for almost 50 yrs. My trucks, (oops I am retired and should have said my son's trucks) have been transporting that stuff all that time. In MO; ethanol is added to 89 octane gas and the 10% ethanol that is added brings this 89 octane (also called mid-grade) to 91 octane.(Premium) This requires a placard on the pumps telling you there is 10% ethanol blend. The ethanol is not put in at the big product terminals. You mov e your trucks to a different location where ethanol is stored and load your 10% blend. (In our case 850 gallon of ethanol)
$30.00 is is charged for this so called "split". The feds give petroleum distributors a break on taxes if they blend the ethanol. So, the 87 octane gasoline is also blended because it makes it cheaper to purchase the product with an ethanol blend. Here is the kicker. You do not have to placard your pumps if you are not increasing the octane for an additional cost. The regular non lead gas, 87 oct., has been blended with 10% ethanol, but you do not have to notify the customer at the pumps. Only if you use it to increase octane to charge more for it.
Right now, they are charging more for ethanol in MO, so the distributors are not blending ethanol with regular non-lead 87 octane. However this is unusual and will not last for more than two or three days. Soon they will have no choice.
Tony was correct. Very soon it will be mandated ALL gasolines will have some type of blend, so you might as well get used to using aviation fuel. They are building those big "Stills" (alcohol plants) all over the US. Mid grade gas is half non lead and half 91 premium. Beware, ethanol will still be added if the product makes the complete load a litle cheaper.
Now you know why I have spent all those years flying and let my family run the business. <G Larry

OK guys
This question comes up a lot and we need a "handout" that can be emailed to answer this question. How about someone volunteering to put together the combined knowledge of the group.
Fly frequently, many times, often, over and over again, and LOOK around,

How common is the use of auto gas in a 7AC?
Any pitfalls one needs to be aware or if using auto gas?
I know not to use ethanol, but have heard some concerns about lesser
amounts of alcohol being added to gas without having to be labeled.
Would there b potential problems with that?
