DD,
Typically, the installation with the tapered shaft flange will use standard
AN6 bolts with a drilled shank. Length of the bolt will depend on the
propeller used. I believe my setup with a W72CK42 prop and Chief spinner
used AN6-55 drilled bolts. AN310-6 castle nuts, AN960-616 flat washers and
AN380-3-3 cotter pins are standard. I have heard, second hand, of the use
of AN365 lock nuts being approved and/or used, but do not think their use is
universally accepted. Carl White may have some additional input on this.
With a Sensenich wood prop, you will need the Sensenich A-437 bushings and a
crush plate.

Subject: [f-AA] Prop Bolts
Hey Clan:
What type of prop bolts are used on an A-65-8 with the tapered shaft prop
flange? Need the AN or NAS numbers and how you safety the prop. The last
IA allowed nyloc nuts to secure the propellor; however, my new IA and I an
not certain if this is approved.
Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can get the Champ ready for the
Sparta Illinois Winter Fly-In on Dec 16. Last year there were 2 airplanes
at the fly-in, a record. Of course they were frozen in until Spring.
Thanks for the help.
