[f-AA] ##headset choices##

I wonder if you could hear a sneaky little ticking sound develop in the engine, with an ANR set on? I'm all for saving what hearing I have left, but I'd hate it more if I missed a subtle warning from the fossil that holds my prop. Is this a factor with ANR, or, like a full face motorcycle helmet, does it make for better hearing of noises, even though it is quieter? Thanks, Kyle

Just got one of my 10-20's back from DC. It had a noisy mike and was about 10 years old and showing major wear. Think they just replaced it with a new set or totally refurbished for a total cost of $70. Sent the other one in about three years ago with a bad earphone and it came back in the same condition for free after six or seven years of hard use. Outstanding service that I don't think is rivaled by any other manufacturer. Don't like the gel seals either, but have no trouble with the regular ones. Have used the Bose and Lightspeed sets and although the Bose is very comfortable, just can't get around the offset in price and service. Plus the Bose will not fit into the helmet that I fly with in JYD. I also have a 10-13.4 and only use it when flying someone elses airplane. Don't like it as well as the 10-20's. I frequently use a friends Lightspeed 20XLC and find it much too bulky, although it is fairly lightweight, and don't see a big advantage in the noise reduction. Have used a Telex only once or twice and it is very similar to the Lightspeed. The Bose is outstanding and should be for the price.

I'm looking to replace my DC 20-10 headset, which I have had some frustrations with. The plastic band has a big crack in it, and the ajustment catch also broke. It has gel ear seals which are always breaking and sliming the side of my head. I checked on replacing the seals yesterday and the replacments are $60.00!

I'm thinking of getting into an ANR headset. They aren't cheap. I don't necessaraly need anything fancy so was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of the lower priced ANR headsets out there? Thanks......Louis
