[f-AA] #### any traffic please advise

A few years ago, after getting my glider rating, I developed an
aversion to the use of a radio in a glider. This was not uncommon at
TSA BTW. If anyone spoke to me about radio I'd declare that I didn't
drive 50 miles to a gliderport in the wilderness to talk on the
(**&*(&*U radio.

Then one day the president of the Association came to me and asked if
I'd figure out what our radio procedures ought to be and publish an
article in the Association newsletter. Naturally I couldn't get that
done without giving the matter a little sober thought. The situation
was that TSA had equipped all club owned aircraft with radios because
of traffic density around the gliderport, and wanted folks to use them.

After encouraging everyone else to use proper uncontrolled airport
radio procedure, in writing, I kinda had to start doing so myself.
