Hi Ian,
The leading edge stiffener is just sandwiched between the ribs and the
leading edge. You can put some tape on it to hold it in place for
positioning if you want.
The four blocks are wedge like in shape, and I believe they are there to
protect the fabric from rubbing through on the sharp edge of the side of the
butt rib. There is a gap of around a 1/4 inch or so between the top and
bottom of the spar and the rib.
I recall recently some people have discussed leaving them out to provide
access for crack inspection. I installed them in mine.

A few questions on the wings.
1/ How is the leading edge stiffener P/N 7-439 fastened to the ribs? I
fancy it may have just been held there with a piece of anti friction
tape, but it's so long ago!!
2/ On my drawing 7-439 which is for the later Champs I guess, there are
four blocks P/N 1-10024 shown as nailed to the top of the inner end of
the main spar, what are they for? I don't think there were any on my
1947 Chief.
