[f-AA] ELT Battery

Every body tells you not to give it out, except to them.
This is something that really sticks in my craw.
Most of the people who ask for it "just for security reasons " never even check you out.
BUT they put it on a piece of paper and put it in a file cabinet so some dopey clerk can steal it and sell it to some scum bag who can get a Visa card in your name.

If they ask for it (and demand it) give it to them and transpose a couple (or more numbers).
If they ever complain , (which they won't) tell them they must have copied it down wrong.
They are probably dyslexic.

I have used this tactic for 35 years.
Reminds of Steve Martin in "My Blue Heaven"

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this, buying something from Canada... we are at the end of week 12 trying to get the Chief certified from being imported from Canada to the US. It was originally from the US. Anyway, the DAR said we needed to have the ELT in working order and to make a long story short, the quickest way was to replace the battery from the Canadian ELT. I located the manufacturer near Toronto and was told the battery is still available and is US FAA approved, great, and I could buy it. During the sales process, she asked for my US Social Security Number....I replied that I do not give out my Social Security number over the phone. She replied that Homeland Security requires they get a US Citizen's SSN before they can complete a sale. I asked if my A&P could order it through their business, she said yes, a company number is acceptable, and that is what I did.
It just seems odd that with all the admonishment from Government sources about identity theft and how careful we should be with our SSN that they require a foreign Government to obtain it...
