[f-AA] C-85 question

  Here is a head scratcher.  On the C-85 I have for the 120, there is a pad on the top left of the case forward of the front cylinder.  It is cast into the case, no holes or machining on it.  Looks like a perfect spot to set your beer while you are working on the airplane (joking of course).  Does anyone have a case like this, or know what this pad was for?  The guys at DIVCO said that it was a certified item but they could not tell me what this would have been for and they have other cases with the pad.

   

  Just wondering.
